What type of camper are you?
-
The Campsite Surfer: Do you use the campsite’s Wi-Fi but want a strong signal inside your vehicle for all your devices? -> [See the Wi-Fi sets]
-
The self-sufficient type: Do you often find yourself in open spaces or places with poor Wi-Fi and prefer to rely on your own 5G or LTE data allowance? -> [See the 5G / LTE bundles]
-
The Professional: Do you want the best of both worlds and start planning for the future today? -> [See the Wi-Fi + LTE combo sets]
Options
Before deciding on a system, you should consider how you most often use the internet when travelling. Both technologies have their merits, but their intended uses differ significantly:
Option A: Wi-Fi booster (e.g. Alfa WiFi CAMP Pro 3)
-
When is this useful? When you’re staying at campsites or in marinas that offer (free) Wi-Fi, but the signal is too weak to penetrate the vehicle’s insulated walls
-
Advantage: You make use of existing infrastructure and save on your own mobile data allowance. Ideal for streaming (Netflix, YouTube) or media libraries
-
Downside: You are dependent on the load on the venue’s Wi-Fi. When the venue is full, the speed often drops for everyone
Option B: 5G / 4G solutions (e.g. Alfa 4G Camp Pro 2 or mobile 5G Router)
-
When is it a good idea? If you’re camping off the grid (‘wild camping’), staying at sites without Wi-Fi, or need a guaranteed, private internet connection for working from home in your motorhome
-
Advantage: independence. You have your own network, which is often more stable and secure than public Wi-Fi hotspots
-
Downside: You’ll need a SIM card with enough data allowance. When travelling within the EU, this is usually not a problem thanks to roaming, but it will use up your allowance
Option C: The hybrid solution combining Wi-Fi and mobile networks (Our recommendation)
Why choose? With systems such as the Alfa WiFi Camp Pro 3 | Dual-Band WLAN + LTE Set hybrid PLUS or special combination kits, you can use the campsite’s Wi-Fi when the signal is strong and switch to LTE in a flash if the site’s infrastructure is overloaded. This ensures maximum flexibility.
Brief description of the products listed:
The Alfa R36AH (here also available with our German installation and user manual) are Wi-Fi routers to which the relevant receivers (Wi-Fi or LTE) are connected via a USB cable, and to which your devices connect via an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
The Alfa Tube-U series consists of outdoor USB receivers for Wi-Fi or mobile connections (depending on the model) and are connected to the R36AH router via a USB cable (a version with our German installation and operating instructions is also available here). The receivers are powered via the USB cable, so no additional external power supply is required.
Alfa Tube-UAC2: outdoor dual-band Wi-Fi receiver (for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots) – Multi-user capability with the Alfa R36AH Wi-Fi router is currently only available in the packages listed below!
Alfa AWUS036ACHM: indoor dual-band Wi-Fi receiver (for 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots) – multi-user capability with the Alfa R36AH Wi-Fi router is currently only available in the packages listed below!
LTE receiver (backward compatible with 3G/UMTS):
Alfa Tube-U4Gv2G: outdoor LTE receiver (GLOBAL model, supports all frequency bands used worldwide; max. 150 Mbps download speed / max. 50 Mbps upload speed)
Antennas are also required for a Wi-Fi or LTE receiver. The solutions listed below featuring the Alfa Tube-UAC2 outdoor dual-band Wi-Fi receiver include the Alfa AOA-2458-79AM dual-band Wi-Fi omnidirectional antenna (for 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies), whilst the Tube-U4Gv2G LTE receiver includes a small 2dBi LTE antenna. The range can be further improved with LTE booster antennas (see below).
We also stock booster antennas for Wi-Fi and LTE receivers, but we need to consider the specific circumstances (distance, line of sight, obstacles, whether the Fresnel zone is clear, the required beam angle, etc.) in order to recommend a suitable antenna.
Illustration of Wi-Fi reception:
Example of LTE reception:
Wi-Fi and LTE connections
- Alfa WiFi Camp Pro 3 | Dual-Band WLAN + LTE Set PLUS (New dual-band version of the classic model for connecting to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots and LTE networks (Alfa Tube-U4Gv2 GLOBAL) – supports all standard global frequencies – includes USB hub) – our recommendation for Wi-Fi + LTE
- Alfa WiFi CAMP Pro 3 Hybrid Spar-Set (New dual-band version of the classic model for connecting to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots and LTE networks (Alfa Tube-U4Gv2) – without 12V car adapter)
- TravelConnector TCS405LTE: Unlike the Alfa products, the Wi-Fi receiver with a 5dBi Wi-Fi booster antenna is connected to the router via an Ethernet cable rather than a USB cable. The LTE receiver is already integrated into the router, making it easier to swap the SIM card than with the Alfa Tube-U4G or Alfa Tube-U4Gv2. All mounts with a 1-inch thread can also be used with the TravelConnector Set. The Alfa TSM1 or Alfa TSM-UC1 mounting kit is not required with the TravelConnector Sets.
How does the switch between Wi-Fi and LTE work?
On the Alfa R36AH, disconnect the USB cable from the Wi-Fi receiver and connect the USB cable from the LTE receiver to the Alfa R36AH; then, on the R36AH’s configuration page, switch the operating mode from Wi-Fi to LTE.
Some of the new Alfa CAMP Pro 3 packages include a 4-port USB hub with integrated switches for each port. There is no longer any need to reconnect the USB cables from the Wi-Fi or LTE receiver; the desired reception mode is activated via a switch, and the active receiver is indicated by an LED on the USB hub.
Only WiFi connections
E.g. at campsites for receiving a Wi-Fi signal; in some cases, upgrading to LTE reception is only possible by replacing the Wi-Fi router – see notes!). All the solutions listed below provide access to Wi-Fi hotspots; they differ only in terms of what is included in the package.
- Alfa WiFi CAMP Pro 3 Dual-Band WLAN Range Extender KIT (New dual-band version of the classic model for connecting to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots, 8m USB cable, LTE upgrade available*)
- Alfa WiFi CAMP Pro 3 Dual-Band WLAN Range Extender KIT (Alternative 1) (New dual-band version of the classic model for connecting to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots, 5m USB cable, LTE upgrade available) – our recommendation (for now) for Wi-Fi connectivity
- Alfa WiFi CAMP Pro 3 Dual-Band WLAN Range Extender KIT (Alternative 2) (New dual-band version of the classic model for connecting to 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi hotspots, 5m USB cable, LTE upgrade available – does not include a 12V car power adapter)
Only 4G connections
For example, to avoid frequently overloaded Wi-Fi hotspots; with the following kit, upgrading to Wi-Fi reception is only possible by replacing the Wi-Fi router!
- Alfa 4G CAMP Pro 2+ KIT (Alfa R36AH Wi-Fi router [without the option to connect a Wi-Fi receiver!] and Alfa Tube-U4Gv2G LTE receiver, including a 5dBi outdoor LTE antenna)
Our Alfa 4G CAMP Pro2+ LTE Range Extender System has been awarded the “YACHT Tested” seal in the 17/2021 issue of YACHT magazine – a full 5 stars!
5G mobile wifi router
For example, to avoid Wi-Fi hotspots that are often overloaded. These devices operate independently without a battery power supply, providing fast internet access via the super-fast 5G mobile network for up to 32 devices throughout the day. We’ve outlined whether switching from Wi-Fi hotspots is worth it for campers here in our german guide for campers.
- TP-Link M8550 mobiler 5G WLAN-Router mit Akku (5G high-speed internet with a long-lasting battery and colour display)
- ZTE U60 mobiler 5G WLAN-Router mit Akku (5G high-speed internet with a battery and display – the affordable alternative)

- CAMP2-LTE-G: LTE Range Extender Kit comprising the Alfa R36AH Wi-Fi router and the Alfa Tube-U4Gv2G LTE receiver, including a 2dBi LTE omnidirectional antenna, for the Alfa WiFi CampPro2 and CampPro2V2 Kit.
Optional accessories
In this section, you will find useful accessories such as permanent and temporary mounts for wall and roof installation, on/off switches, 12V connection options, surge protection plugs and extension cables, and much more.
Amplifier antennas for Wi-Fi and LTE
Wi-Fi booster antennas – compatible with the Alfa Tube-UN or Alfa Tube-UNA Wi-Fi receivers – the following antennas have proven effective as Wi-Fi directional antennas (the location of the Wi-Fi hotspot must be known):
- Alfa APA-L2410A - 10dBi wifi drectional antenna 2,4GHz
- Alfa APA-L2458-08A - 8dBi wifi directional dual-band antenna (2,4GHz & 5GHz)
- Alfa AYA-2410 - 10dBi wifi directional antenna 2,4GHz
If the Wi-Fi location is unknown, omnidirectional Wi-Fi antennas are the better choice, as they do not need to be aligned with the location of the Wi-Fi hotspot. The 9dBi omnidirectional Wi-Fi antenna included in our kits offers an excellent balance between range and beam angle. If long distances need to be covered and the location of the Wi-Fi hotspot is unknown, 12dBi and 15dBi omnidirectional Wi-Fi antennas can also be used. However, due to the narrow beam angle, the signal’s coverage cone may not reach the Wi-Fi hotspot.
- interline HORIZON MAXI 12dBi - 12dBi wifi omni directional antenna 2,4GHz
- WiFi-Link WLMO-2450-12 - 12dBi wifi omni directional antenna 2,4GHz
- Alfa AOA-2415 15dBi - 15dBi wifi omni directional antenna 2,4GHz
LTE amplifier antennas fits the Tube-U4Gv2G (available with 5dBi, 6dBi, 8dBi and 18dBi gain):
- Alfa AOA-4G-5M 5dBi LTE antenna (omni directional antenna)
- Alfa AOA-4G-5W 5dBi LTE antenna (omni directional antenna) [wall mount]
- Alfa AOA-4G-8M 8dBi LTE antenna (omni directional antenna)
- Alfa AOA-M4G 6dBi LTE antenna (omni directional antenna) [Marine-Version]
- Alfa AYA-4G-18 18dBi LTE antenna (yagi directional antenna)
It is not possible to make a general statement about the range of KITs, as it always depends on the environment (line of sight to the hotspot/access point; obstructions such as trees and buildings; interfering frequencies; frequency band congestion; other users on the same Wi-Fi hotspot, etc.).
The range can vary from a few meters to several kilometers … in the reviews, other customers report that they have successfully established connections over 1,000 meters.
Note: The SIM card is inserted into the LTE receiver (Alfa Tube U4Gv2), not into the Alfa R36AH Wi-Fi router.
With the TravelConnector TCS4 packages, the SIM card is inserted directly into the LTE router, making it easier to swap out.
FAQ (wifi & LTE camping)
Can I use the Wi-Fi signal even while the RV is in motion?
Wi-Fi extenders (such as the Camp Pro 3) are designed for stationary use at campsites. While driving, the campsite’s signal quickly drops out of range. For internet access while on the go, we recommend our mobile 5G routers, which maintain a stable connection via the cellular network.
Do I need a separate SIM card for LTE?
Yes, you’ll need a SIM card for all LTE solutions (e.g., Alfa 4G Camp Pro or the Alternative 1 upgrade). Prepaid cards or secondary SIM cards (multi-SIM) from your existing mobile phone plan are ideal. Thanks to EU roaming, you can use your data allowance in most vacation destinations at no extra cost.
Why isn't my smartphone hotspot enough?
Using a smartphone inside a motorhome has two drawbacks: the vehicle’s exterior walls significantly weaken the signal, and the phone’s battery gets extremely hot and wears out faster when used continuously as a hotspot. Our outdoor antennas pick up the signal outside the vehicle and transmit it inside without any loss.
Are the outdoor antennas weatherproof?
Absolutely. The Alfa Tube-UAC2 (Wi-Fi) and Tube-U4G (LTE) are rated to the IP66 standard. They can withstand heavy rain, UV radiation, and wind. We offer special waterproof grommets for routing cables into the vehicle interior.
Do the sets also work with a smart TV or Fire TV Stick?
Yes! Since the Alfa router sets up its own standard Wi-Fi network in the vehicle, any smart TV, streaming stick, or Sky Q receiver will recognize this network just like at home. Thanks to the new-generation dual-band technology (5 GHz), smooth HD streaming is no problem at all.
Is the setup feasible even for people with no technical background?
That’s our specialty! Every kit purchased at wlan-profi-shop.de includes easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions in German that we’ve created ourselves. Setup is simple and can be done right from your tablet or smartphone’s browser—no software installation is required.
